World Mission

The Mukuru Project Liverpool is a charity set up by a small group of volunteers to help children who live in the Slums of Mukuru, Nairobi, Kenya. This project has been supported by the parishioners of Our Lady’s for many years. The Project funds 85 children who cannot afford their secondary education in Kenya and delivers Amaranth Grain, an enriched supplement for children with health issues, particularly HIV.

CAFOD is the official aid agency for the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD is guided by the values of compassion, solidarity and hope. Together, with the help of  volunteers, the organisation  puts  faith into action to help our sisters and brothers living in extreme poverty to reach their full potential, regardless of religion or culture.

The parish support the work of CAFOD through the regular Fast Days, information sharing and collections.

Fairtrade: Our Lady’s is a Fairtrade parish which means we are striving to support better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. All the tea and coffee in the parish is fairly traded as is the altar wine, palm leaves and some even vestments.

LAMP and Peru: is the Liverpool Archdiocesan Missionary Project. LAMP runs two parishes in Lima, Peru. Throughout the year the parish supports LAMP through prayer and an annual collection. The parish also supports through craft sales the work of the Sisters of Mercy in Lima, Peru.

Bethlehem: Through the sale of items made from olive wood by cooperatives in Bethlehem the parish supports our brothers and sisters in Palestine who suffer from much persecution.

Red Mission Boxes: On top of the fridge. Beside the phone. Next to the till in the parish centre. The iconic Red Box has been a familiar fixture in homes and parishes across England and Wales for over 75 years. The money raised supports the local Church overseas and shares the light of Christ by training priests, building churches and combating injustice, disease, poverty and exploitation in 157 countries.
