Sunday Sermon

 6th  Sunday of Easter: May 13th 2012:

I am sure that many people here today have at some stage in their lives been for a job interview .

Whatever the situation this kind of interview is nerve racking -

People go through this anxiety and strain in the hope that they will be selected. The prospect of failure and rejection is real, but the serious hope of being chosen gives the courage to face the probing questions.

The good news that we are celebrating here today is that we do not have to turn up at an interview to discover if God will choose us or not:

God has already made an everlasting decision to love us.

God's love is not an issue; it is not a matter of speculation. It is there.

God has taken the initiative - God has first loved us. This is God's choice and no matter what we are like, not matter what we do, God will not revoke that decision, that choice. Gad has decided to love us.

No matter how we respond God will always love us.

It is that that we gather each week to celebrate here in Church. And it is really important that we gather to celebrate this because sometimes, some people, or even many people, feel that they are not worth loving. Sometimes people feel that they have done something so dreadful that God couldn't possibly love them - sometimes people feel so bad about themselves that they feel that they are just not worthy of Gods love.

I want to say loud and clear today that God has made a choice to love you.

No I want to say more than that:

God has made a choice to love ME.

God has made a choice to love me.

We have no choice in that - God has chosen to love us:

Life is full of uncertainties - the weather; our health; jobs; uncertainties about people, uncertainties about the future

- and these uncertainties can be exhausting, they can drain us of energy

But in the midst of these uncertainties there is one thing that we can always be sure of and that one thing is God's love.

(God has no favourites.)
