CHILDREN'S LITURGY

Through a separate Liturgy of the Word for children, we introduce children to important aspects of God's message and to worship of God. We do this by allowing them to celebrate God's word at their level, giving them the opportunity to offer their thoughts and reflections, following the pattern of the liturgy. The Children’s Liturgy takes place on  Sunday at 9.30am and 11.00am Masses.

FAMILY CATECHESIS
It is our commitment to help families grow in faith. The attituide we have is that we want to help people prepare for a life time's relationship with God and his Church - we do not want to just prepare for individual sacraments - we want to live sacramental lives.

BAPTISM

Parents wishing to bring their children for Baptism are invited to make an appointment to see Father Philip or Shirley. Dates are then given for the Welcome Mass, for the Baptism and for the Baptism preparation meeting. Parents attend a baptism preparation meeting, led by our team of Baptismal Catechists. This is usually on one evening from 7.00pm - 8.00pm. The Welcome Mass is at the Sunday 11.00am Mass. During this Mass you child is welcomed to our parish and the Baptism begins.

CONFIRMATION

The parish Confirmation programme is open to young people in Year 4 or above There is a preparation course for Confirmation every year. Details are in the parish newsletter. Normally adult Confirmation is celebrated at the Easter Vigil after a period of preparation

COMMUNION

The parish First Communion programme is open to all children in Year 4 or above who have been baptised and have celebrated their Confirmation. There is a new programme being intorduced into the Archdiocese as part of our Family catechesis.

RECONCILIATION

Families celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation when their child reaches Year 4. Preparation will follow a scheme from the Archdiocese. During Advent and Lent there is a Service of Reconciliation. This enables us to gather as a community and celebrate our need for Gods’ forgiveness. A Pastoral Area celebration of Reconciliation is also held.

RCIA

Those adults who desire to become full members of the Roman Catholic Church follow the course and are Baptised (when necessary), Confirmed and make their Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil. The RCIA is open to Roman Catholic adults who have not completed the Sacraments of Initiation (namely Communion and Confirmation). Those who are already full members of the church are welcome to join the group to learn more about their faith. Please contact Mary Quirk or Shirley Green for further details.

MARRIAGE

We welcome those who wish to celebrate their love together in the Sacrament of Marriage. It is the usual custom that one of the couple live or worship in the parish. Weddings can be as big or as small as you wish. Those who are getting married in Church attend a marriage preparation course, led by a team of married people. This is usually a Saturday in February or March.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK

There is an opportunity for parishioners who are sick to celebrate the Sacrament of anointing at the annual Mass of  Anointing. Parishioners who are housebound are visited regularly by Eucharistic Ministers who take Holy Communion to their homes. If you know of anyone who is sick who would like to receive the Sacrament of the sick or would like to be able to receive Holy Communion at home please let Fr Philip know.

FUNERAL SERVICE

At the time of the death of a loved one a funeral service can be arranged. For some people this will be a mass; for others it will be a funeral service. The arrangements for this are made in conjunction with the priest and an undertaker. Due to the reduced number of priests it is not always possible to arrange the funeral on the day or at the time you may initially wish. We do everything we can to accommodate. A team of parishioners will lead the rosary on the night before the funeral if a family wishes. (It is not usually the priest who will do this.)

In November each year we invite those who have been bereaved in the last 12 months to a special Mass.
